A Global Struggle
Land tenure security is one of the greatest challenges facing urban garden projects that seek to be sustainable in the long term.
The Beach Flats story is not a localized phenomenon, and falls within the greater global struggle for food justice and food sovereignty. Across the world, land and resource access and security among small-scale producers is consistently threatened due to the globalization, industrialization, and consolidation of our global agro-food system. From Santa Cruz to Southeast Asia, globalization and the free market economy are challenging grower's livelihoods, sense of place, and food sovereignty.
This film will explore how the Beach Flat's struggle falls within a global phenomenon.
