A Personal Story
Gardens grow more than food, they cultivate character.
Each gardener has his or her own personal narrative to share, quickly becoming embedded in the physical and social dimensions of the space. At the Beach Flats community garden, many of the gardeners have migrated thousands of miles, most from rural Mexico and El Salvador, bringing their traditional knowledges of farming, their seeds, and their passion for working the land with them. No Place to Grow inquires and explores their personal histories and motivations. How has gardening aided in the transition to a new country? What does the garden represent to them and their community? How does it create and maintain a social network? And simply, what do they grow in the garden, and how do they rely on it for food?
"No Place to Grow" explores the people, narratives, dreams and passions that cultivate this vibrant community.
